I felt angry watching it. Nicolas Cage has steadily built a reputation for being a kooky actor, with recent performances seeing him dialling the craziness up to eleven; Sion Sono is a director who seems to be trying to outdo Takashi Miike in terms of surreality. Prisoners of the Ghostland, from the producers of Mandy, sees Cage and Sono teaming up to bring us what has to be the most thoroughly contrived piece of bizarre cinema I have ever seen. It's wall-to-wall weirdness, but everything feels so meticulously calculated to confound that it proves irksome in the extreme. The basic plot sounds like exploitation heaven: when wealthy warlord The Governor (Bill Moseley) discovers that his adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) has hightailed it into the badlands, he springs a notorious criminal (Cage) from jail and offers him his freedom if he can bring the missing girl back. To ensure compliance, the criminal is fitted with a leather...

it's great. .. i mean, if you can accept that Ghostland WANTS to be bad, then ok, you can watch it. But if you are expecting this to be a standard film, following the standard rules of entertainment ..Instead Ghostland is a film where everything is too much. Everything is over the top. But those who wrote this, knew what they were doing. Example: The super-obvious copy of the Escape From New York "exploding capsules" trick; you can either believe that whomever wrote that doesn't know about John Carpenter, or you can believe that they totally do, not only do they know John Carpenter, they also know Fritz Lang - and have a massive onscreen reference to Metropolis, that NOBODY from the audience of this film has watched. They reference Lone Wolf & Cub, and a ton of good-to-mediocre, but well known japanese "period" (i.e. Samurai) films, but also some American 60s, early 70s films as well...

Absolutely Insane and Surreal..Too Crazy to make any Sense. Well, its always fun to see Nick Cage do crazy and this movie is a good medium for it! Surreal and insane as in "mandy" crazy! Not really my cup of tea and I'll admit to fast forwarding thu alot of the lunacy..the testicle scene though had me laughing hard! You'll Know the scene I mean..enough said! Aside from nick doing nuts as only he can, the scenes with Bill Moseley doing an Outstanding impression of literally channelling Dennis Hopper..Now That was trippy! Close my eyes and I could see Hopper saying the lines..Sofia was painfully beautiful to look at...I dont know whats up with these directors and writers,Are they high on crack and LSD when they make movies like this? Yeah it feels Otherworldly and oh so surreal with all the people standing around staring mindlessly behind masks, screaming like lunatics...

Another worst action film by Nicolas Cage! Full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Avoid at all cost! This film start with a boy staring at the candy, and a man "Hero" robbing the bank scene! As turnout, this film is about Hero need to rescue a young woman "Bernice" from the so called Ghostland! Entire film full of boring conversation, and super annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the searching scene, overuse of the driving scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the flashbacks scene, overuse of the hallucinate scene, overuse of the blackout scene, overuse of the drinking scene, overuse of the shouting scene, and overuse of the singing scene! Make the film unwatchable! All the action scene have blood, and explosion at certain point, but overall portray by sideways, super slow motion, super messy, and occur in too...

Really should have been more fun than it was... Guess the idea of a Sion Sono directed film starring Nicolas Cage that dips its toes into almost every genre was too good to be true 😔Not that this is terrible, as many of its technical aspects are competent. It's more just that it's bafflingly boring when it comes to its characters and overall narrative, and the pacing is pretty awful. You can tell right from the start, too. There's like two or three scenes that feel like opening scenes, and then the scene that sets up the plot afterwards just goes on and on and on, and that's just the first 20 minutes. Things don't improve a lot from there.Unhinged Cage is fun, as is some of the action, and the film definitely has an interesting look to it at times, but it's strangely dull and lifeless for much of its runtime, and...
