8/10: My Son as a remake, worth watching
Tuesday, October 12, 2021

I can't think of another instance when a director has taken on two projects, two movies, based on the very same story, but there's one; director Christian Carion who wrote the script for the first movie 'Mon Garçon', French for 'My Son', in 2017, did the remake this time in English, in 2021 (released in Sep-2021). Carion was nominated in 2005 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the best 2004 foreign language film, an Oscar, for the movie Joyeux Noël/Merry Christmas, but lost to Gavin Hood for the film Tsotsi. I took it upon myself to watch the original as well as the remake (yes I do that sort of thing) and here's my take. There's a definite suspense in the story and how it develops. The IMDb movie synopsis of the 2021 version is a far better one than the 2017 one, though it's the very same story...

9/10: James McAvoy and Claire Foy are the main reasons why this remake is actually better than the original
Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Just saw this movie and I have to say it is probably one of the biggest surprises of this season. Such a shame it wasn´t on cinemas because the photography and the natural enviorment look extremely good. The driving to the camp at the beginning had plenty of 'Shining' and 'Skyfall' vibes. Maybe the main flaw this movie has is that it plays the storyline too much on the same page that the original did. But it is not a complete copy. Not at all. What is a huge improvement in this are the performances. The formula is the same as in the French one. The protagonist is the sole role that literally has NO SCRIPT while the others do. And his reactions are genuine. While in the original French version the main character is likeable enough, James McAvoy is a beast of an actor. A total charming, addictive and powerful presence that fills the screen. For instance, the...

3/10: A film that proves that great actors need great scipts

Foy and McAvoy should have been an out and out winner, It was far from it.They both put in good performances but I was having trouble with understanding McAvoy's response in situations, he always looked bewildered and went straight to anger as his go to. Something he does well but it looked awkward. I then read he had no script so understood he was filling in till he could figure out a good response. As an art school project this may have been a good ploy, as a mainstream film? Not so much.A couple of plot holes here, the cops called off the investigation at the highest level. Surely the kidnappers would have been told? Instead the kept saying the police are crawling all over the place when there was no investigation. Putting two Landrovers together as the same one is a bit of a stretch and there was nothing to say they were involved in anything...

8/10: These starts are because I LOVE JM
Friday, September 17, 2021

To me he's been one of the best actors around for many years!! So underrated for so many years. I've watched a lot of his old stuff and he's just amazing. I wanted more answers from this movie though!! The why's are the biggest ones. Why his son, why did the investigation have to stop, why was his job brought into focus and then just dropped?? Then The Who's. Who was the mastermind, who raided his office, who belongs to the kidnapping ring, are some so big they could raid an office, of its top secret info, and stop A missing child investigation dead in its tracks?? Then what...just straight up, what happened to everyone in the end? If not for JM this movie would've been rated lower by me, actually I probably would've fast forwarded through some of it. It was okay, we just needed more answers, to the questions the...

1/10: Another worst film! Too slow, and full of annoying overuse scene! Bored to freaking death
Monday, October 11, 2021

This film start with a man "Edmond" driving from a ferry to the bridge, and he arrive at his destination scene! As turnout, this film is about Edmond need to save his son "Ethan" from a bunch of kidnappers! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the driving scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the searching scene, overuse of the drinking scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the watching video scene, overuse of the yelling scene, overuse of the breathing scene, overuse of the coughing scene, overuse of the GPS voice guide scene, and overuse of the talking on the phone scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, Edmond saved his son! Edmond went away with Inspector Roy at the very end! That's it! Wasting time to watch
