5/10: Invasion... perhaps... maybe... eventually... but not right now
Tuesday, October 26, 2021

You know those times when you are out shopping? You have a list, and a ton of other things to get done before you are done. Then suddenly you find yourself trapped behind those meandering fools who look upon shopping as a fun day out. Your schedule means nothing to them. The world owes them an amble, and to hell with anyone who just wants to get on.Well, that sums up Invasion pretty well. There is a story here. A story that demands urgency. A story that demands action. A story that needs to get on.However, it doesn't, because of the endless meandering of the overly melodramatic sub-stories that form the bulk of each episode's runtime. This is something I've noticed more and more of late. Drama (and melodrama) wrapped up in another genre's coat to try and convince you it's worth your time.As to whether Invasion will be worth your...

1/10: 4 hours in and still no aliens
Saturday, October 23, 2021

Once again something based on or inspired by the Legendary book by HG Wells turns out to be a boring trudge through a tick-box melodrama with no aliens.Been looking forward to this for a while now but 4 hours in and we have been introduced to a wealth of dull characters and apart from a glimpse of tripodial alien or mode of transport we have not had any real invasion. There is nothing remotely interesting about these people that warrants the first 4 hour long episodes.5 minutes each would be too long.We get the usual woke boxes ticked off. Strong taking charge women, gay characters. Minorities sorted, not very nice men dominated by the strong woman characters.Sam Neill's religiously driven deluded retiring sheriff among the best character but he is either dead or has been kidnapped by aliens in E1.The Iraq scenes were mildly interesting and afford us some sense of something not...

1/10: Another dull alien invasion without any aliens

1/10: A slow cook they said
Saturday, October 23, 2021

It's slow like trying to boil water with a bic lighter, never going to happen. There are loads of decent movies addressing this subject of alien invasions and the chaos, panic and confusion that goes with it. This series is more focused on telling multiple points of view, quickly swapping from scene to scene without ever telling us anything.Kids with bloody noses scene. Cool big mystery, spend 10/55 mins telling this part. Go to the doctor who runs some tests. You're fine. Scene ends.Sheriff timeline. Big mystery of a 5' hole in a cornfield. Huge mystery with crows messing around. 15 mins total time in the pilot series just for the Sheriff to die and the timeline ends.I watched the first episode then used the ffw button selectively on the next two and honestly they all (3x55mins) could have been edited down to a 10 min intro into a movie. Nothing has happened yet...

2/10: Invasion
Saturday, October 30, 2021

Drama, Fantasy, Sci-fi.4 episodes in, drama there is, it is slow & it is drab & it is mind numbingly pointless, involving hideous unbelievable characters in poorly constructed situations that have little to do with realism. There is no fantasy, beyond kinsberg believing he can write anything other than nonsensical rubbish, the dialogue is as ludicrous as the ridiculous characters, why Kinsberg would set the hideous unlikeable "malik" family as the protagonists of this story is a mystery, after 4 episodes there isn't a single character that is likeable. The sci-fi is simply non existant. This show simply doesn't live up to its plot summary; "Earth is visited by an alien species that threatens humanity's existence. Events unfold in real time through the eyes of five ordinary people across the globe as they struggle to make sense of the chaos unravelling around them. "Sadly this looks like another reimagined version of " war of the worlds" similar...
